Frequently Asked Questions

What is concierge nursing and patient advocacy?

Taking Care of Mimi is a nurse-led service for families caring for aging parents or ill loved ones. A registered nurse goes with your loved one to medical appointments, helps organize medications and care instructions, coordinates among providers, supports the transition home after a hospital stay, and keeps your family informed. We take a whole-person, whole-family, whole-home view, so your loved one is safe and supported at home or wherever they live. Throughout, we advocate for their needs and preferences.

What if we aren't sure what we need?

That is very common, and it's what the free consultation is for. In 30 minutes, we talk through your situation and brainstorm together how we can support you, whether that's help with a single appointment, support after a hospital stay, or a broader plan. There is no obligation.

Can you help arrange other services, like caregivers, meals, housekeeping, or therapy?

Yes. If your loved one needs an aide for certain hours, we help arrange and coordinate that. If they need meal preparation or delivery, or housekeeping, we help with that as well. If they need physical therapy or other therapy services, we can help you find providers, including therapists who come to the home. We look at the whole picture so your loved one is safe in their current environment, and so your family doesn't have to piece it together alone.

How is this different from a home care or staffing agency?

We are not a staffing agency. Our role is advocacy, coordination, guidance, and in-person support from a registered nurse. We do not provide hands-on personal care or treatments. Our hands-on work is limited to nursing assessments, including vital signs, and medication coordination based on your loved one's prescribed medications and their providers' instructions.

Who uses your services?

Most often, adult children helping a parent, but also spouses, siblings, and individuals facing a new diagnosis, surgery, or hospital stay. Your loved one may live at home, in independent living, in assisted living, or in another care setting.

What happens in the free 30-minute consultation?

The consultation is held by phone or video. We listen to your situation, ask questions, and explain how we can help. If you decide to move forward, we complete a full in-person assessment before finalizing an agreement.

How much does it cost?

We offer hourly services, packages, and retainer arrangements for larger service packages or travel. Every family's needs are different, so we discuss fees during your free consultation, and you will know exactly what to expect before you decide. Our services are private pay only. We do not accept insurance.

Do you receive referral fees from the providers you recommend?

No. We do not accept fees or commissions from any provider, agency, or service we recommend, so our guidance is based on what is best for your loved one and your family.

How quickly will I hear back?

We reply to every inquiry within 4 hours, 7 days a week. Messages sent overnight are answered after 6 a.m. Taking Care of Mimi is not an emergency service. In a medical emergency, call 911.

Where do you serve?

We are based in Scottsdale and serve Scottsdale, North Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Carefree, Paradise Valley, Phoenix, and Maricopa County.

Can you help if I live out of town?

Yes. If your loved one lives in the Phoenix area, you can join the initial consultation by video, and even the in-home assessment, from wherever you are. After that, we provide ongoing updates by phone or video. In-person support is for loved ones in the Phoenix area.

Can you help if my loved one lives outside the Phoenix area?

Yes. We hold video sessions to understand your loved one's situation and help determine what they need, and we can continue providing remote advocacy and guidance to the client and family. If local nursing support would help, we can help you identify local nurses and other resources. We can't guarantee availability, but we are glad to help you search.
